Congratulations on Your Wheatgrass Growing Kit Purchase!
Ready to grow your own vibrant, nutrient-rich wheatgrass at home? Below you’ll find a step-by-step guide to growing wheatgrass from seed to harvest using your Australian Wheatgrass Kit.
How to Grow Wheatgrass at Home – Step-by-Step
Step 1: Soak the Seeds
Pour 1 cup of wheatgrass seeds into a clean glass jar. Fill with water, ensuring the seeds are fully submerged. Soak for 12 hours. The seeds will roughly double in size, so use a large enough jar to allow for expansion.
This amount is ideal for one small tray (30cm x 27cm).
Step 2: Rinse and Germinate
After soaking, place the seeds into a colander for another 12 hours. Rinse the seeds 2–3 times during this period to keep them hydrated. You’ll notice the seeds begin to sprout.
Step 3: Prepare the Tray
Line your sprouting tray with a paper liner to prevent soil from escaping through the drainage holes.
Step 4: Add Soil
Add 1–2 cm of soil (we recommend coco fibre) over the paper liner, spreading it evenly across the tray.
Step 5: Seed Volume Doubles
By now, your soaked seeds will have increased to about 2 cups in volume — perfect for even coverage.
Step 6: Spread the Seeds
Distribute the seeds evenly across the soil. Try not to layer them on top of each other — this improves air circulation and reduces mould risk.
Water thoroughly the first time, ensuring water drains through the tray.
Step 7: Cover and Mist
Cover the seeds with a sheet of paper and mist it well using a spray bottle.
Over the next 48 hours, lightly mist every 8 hours to keep the paper and seeds moist.
Step 8: Uncover Once Sprouted
The sprouting seeds will begin to push up the paper. Once they reach about 1–2 cm in height, remove the paper.
Step 9: Water and Grow
Continue to water your wheatgrass lightly every day. Within 7-10 days, your wheatgrass should be lush and ready for harvest and juicing.
Tips for Growing Wheatgrass Successfully
1. Avoid Overwatering
After the initial soak, lightly water each day to promote strong root development and prevent mould.
2.Fertilising (Optional)
For strong growth , you can apply organic liquid fertiliser once around day 7, when the wheatgrass begins to search for nutrients. Avoid juicing within 3 days of fertilising as it may cause the wheatgrass juice to have a bitter taste.
3. Keep Out of Direct Sunlight
Grow your wheatgrass in a shady, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent the grass from drying or wilting.
