Unhulled Oats – Ideal for Growing Oat Microgreens
Unhulled oats are whole oat seeds that still have their tough outer hull intact. This hard, protective shell makes them excellent for growing oat microgreens (or oat grass) but not suitable for eating as sprouted seeds.
While they can technically be sprouted, unhulled oats are not meant to be consumed in their sprouted form. The outer husk is indigestible and can be difficult for the body to process. For this reason, we recommend using unhulled oats specifically for growing vibrant, grassy oat microgreens — not for raw sprout consumption.
Oat microgreens grow quickly and are known for their mild, sweet flavor and high chlorophyll content. They’re a popular addition to juices, smoothies, and salads, offering a nutritious green boost.
Best For:
-
Growing oat microgreens (or oat grass) indoors or outdoors
-
Juicing or blending into green drinks
-
Feeding to livestock as grain or sprouted grass
Not Recommended For:
-
Eating raw sprouts
-
Snacking or direct consumption in early sprouted form
Note: If you’re looking for oats to eat as sprouts or in raw form, choose hulled, food-grade, sproutable oat groats instead.
