Unhulled Oats – Perfect for Growing Vibrant Microgreens

Looking for whole oats or unhulled oats for sprouting microgreens? You’ve found the right stuff! Our unhulled oats are the go-to choice for growing lush, nutrient-packed oat microgreens (or oat grass) with ease. These little powerhouses still have their tough outer hull intact, making them ideal for microgreen cultivation—just not for munching as sprouts.

Why Choose Unhulled Oats?

These whole oats are all about growing, not eating raw. The outer husk is nature’s way of protecting the seed, but it’s a bit too tough for digestion. No worries though—that hardy shell makes them absolute champs for sprouting thick, grassy microgreens packed with chlorophyll and a sweet, mild flavour.

How to Use ‘Em

Perfect for indoor or outdoor microgreen setups, these oats grow fast and deliver a fresh green boost to juices, smoothies, or salads. They’re also a top pick for feeding livestock as grain or sprouted grass. Just remember: these aren’t the oats you’d snack on—stick to hulled oat groats if you’re after edible sprouts.

Best Uses:

  • Growing oat microgreens (or oat grass) like a pro
  • Blending into green juices or smoothies
  • Livestock feed—great as grain or sprouted grass

Not For:

  • Raw sprout consumption (that hull’s a bit too tough!)
  • Direct snacking in early sprout form

Ready to grow your own super greens? Grab a bag of these unhulled oats for sprouting and get planting—your microgreens (or livestock) will thank you!

About Our Seeds

Most sprouting seeds are ready to eat in 3–7 days, depending on the variety.

Our seeds are high-quality, non-GMO, and untreated. Some varieties are certified organic — check the product page for details.

If you’re new to sprouting, some of the easiest and most rewarding seeds are broccoli, alfalfa, chickpeas, and radish. These sprout quickly (usually within 3–6 days) and add fresh flavour and nutrition to everyday meals.

For a leafy texture, sprout broccoli, alfalfa, clover and radish — you can even mix them together for a tasty, well-balanced blend.

For a crunchier, protein-rich sprout, try chickpeas, red lentils, and blue peas. Sprout tails appear within 24 hours, and they’re ready to eat in just 2–3 days, depending on how developed you prefer them.

Whether sprouted separately or in mixes, these beginner-friendly seeds are quick to grow, versatile, and full of nutrients.

Seeds don’t really “expire” like packaged food, but they do lose germination strength over time. With the right storage, most sprouting seeds will remain viable for several years.

To get the best life from your seeds, store them in a cool, dry, and dark place. Airtight containers such as jars or sealed bags work best, and you can add a silica gel packet to keep out moisture. For longer-term storage, many growers keep seeds in the fridge or freezer — just let them warm to room temperature before opening.

Here’s a guide for some of our most popular sprouting seeds:

  • 1–2 years: peas, mung beans, lentils, chickpeas
  • 3–4 years: alfalfa, radish, fenugreek, mustard
  • 4–5 years: broccoli, wheatgrass, sunflower, buckwheat, clover

If you’re unsure whether older seeds are still good, you can do a quick germination test: place a few on a damp paper towel in a sealed bag, keep it moist, and check how many sprout within 5–10 days.

Stored properly, your sprouting seeds will last for years, giving you plenty of time to grow fresh, healthy food at home
