Seeds don't expire, but their ability to sprout weakens over time. With proper storage, your seeds will remain viable for years, ensuring a high germination rate for every batch of fresh sprouts.

Key Storage Tips:

  • ✅ Keep it Cool, Dry, and Dark: The best place to store seeds is in a location that's away from heat, light, and humidity.
  • ✅ Use an Airtight Container: Jars or sealed bags are ideal. For extra protection against moisture, you can add a silica gel packet.
  • ✅ Consider Refrigeration: For long-term storage, keeping seeds in the fridge or freezer is a great option. Just be sure to let them return to room temperature before you use them.

Sprouting Seed Viability Guide

Here's how long you can expect some of our most popular seeds to last when stored correctly:

  • 1–2 Years: Mung beans, peas, lentils, and chickpeas.
  • 3–4 Years: Alfalfa, radish, fenugreek, and mustard.
  • 4–5 Years: Broccoli, wheatgrass, sunflower, buckwheat, and clover.

If you're unsure about older seeds, you can perform a simple germination test. Place a few seeds on a damp paper towel inside a sealed bag. Keep them moist and check the number of sprouts after 5–10 days to see if they are still viable.

Sprout Kits & Grow Equipment FAQ

No — you don’t need a sprouter to grow seeds. You can use a simple glass jar with a cloth secured over the top, a kitchen sieve, or even a breathable fabric bag. However, dedicated seed sprouters are very convenient, as they make rinsing, draining, and airflow easier, helping you get more reliable results.

Coco fibre (coir) is a natural, sustainable growing medium made from coconut husk. It holds moisture well, drains evenly, and is a clean, soil-free option for growing microgreens and wheatgrass indoors.

Sprouts are eaten just a few days after germination. They don’t need soil or light — you simply soak and rinse the seeds until small shoots appear. The whole sprout (root, seed, and shoot) is eaten.

Microgreens are cultivated in mediums like soil or coco fibre and are harvested shortly after their first true leaves (cotyledons) emerge. They're cut just above the surface of the soil. Popular with chefs, they are often used as garnishes or as flavourful toppings for a variety of dishes.

About 2 tablespoons (30 g) of seed is enough for our 600 ml sprouter jar. In 5 days, this will grow to fill the entire jar and yield around 200 g of fresh sprouts

For larger seeds (like chickpeas, mung beans, adzuki, lentils), use about 4 tablespoons (60 g) in the same jar. These swell to about 150-200g of fresh sprouts.

Our Wheatgrass Grow Kit 3 has everything you need to grow fresh wheatgrass at home. It includes grow trays, drip trays, coco fibre growing medium, wheatgrass seeds, natural fertiliser, and a paper liner — no extra equipment required. Just add water and light, and you’ll be harvesting in about 7–10 days
